Text vs. HTML

Email messages are created in 2 formats (Text and HTML).

A Text version strips all images, formatting and colors to display only the text in a simple layout. Designers will have very little control over the look and feel of the email since the email reader will display the text based on their individual settings. Clients should deploy both versions as a safeguard in the event email readers block the HTML version. A text based email should not exceed and optimal width of 70 characters.

HTML uses web coding to display text and images that enhance your message to form an email advertisement with the ability to use colors, images and formatting that is visually appealing. Branding is also strengthened by the graphics and HTML created for the message.
